Millenium has always offered a service highly appreciated by our boat owners and our teams: the Millenium Winter Service. The goal of the winter service is to preserve the performance of the sails and minimize the risk of breakage during the season, whether for racing or cruising.
In its most comprehensive form, the service consists of five phases.
- On-water sail testing. The date for sail removal is chosen when weather conditions are favorable for a trip out to sea, during which all sails scheduled for maintenance are tested. This, combined with feedback from the crew, provides a clear picture of the sails’ condition.
- Removal and transport. The sails are carefully removed by the Millenium team and transported to the sailmaker’s workshop. While at the dock, any additional noteworthy details are noted for a thorough inspection at the workshop.
- Inspection at the sailmaker’s. Once the sails arrive at the loft, they are unfolded and carefully inspected. The entire surface, every reinforcement, and all components are evaluated to determine their condition and to plan whether and what repairs are necessary. If repairs are needed, they are performed before the sails are stowed.
- Service History. Whether it involves maintenance work or simply assessing the condition of each individual sail, everything is recorded, and a tag is attached to the sail, allowing quick identification of the sail and its service history.
- Winter Storage. Millenium also offers a winter storage service that allows sails to be stored, following the previous steps, in a climate-controlled warehouse. Controlling temperature and humidity while the sails are in storage counteracts the aging process they undergo when exposed to winter weather.
Millenium recommends this process in order to significantly extend the life of the sails, maintaining their original performance as much as possible. The Winter Service is also available for sails not manufactured by Millenium.
